The Sub-commission on the Latgalian Written Language was founded on 20 June 2003 as part of the Latvian Language Expert Commission of the State Language Centre with the aim of promoting the regulation of the cultural environment of the language, particularly, through ensuring the development and implementation of unified orthography of the Latgalian written language. Within the three-year period the sub-commission had developed the Latgalian written language rules based on grammatical principles. The Sub-commission was disbanded in 2009. However, in 2013, the sub-commission was re-established.
